House of the Dragon season 2 finale date
By Dan Selcke
It feels like just the other day that HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon returned for a second season. But it was actually eight weeks ago, and we're not nearly at the end.
Quite a bit has happened over the past two months. Daemon Targaryen hired goons who murdered Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, the young son of King Aegon Targaryen and Queen Helaena. Twin fought twin, Rhaenyra Targaryen wore a nun outfit to sneak into King's Landing, and dragons battled each other in the sky in a fight that left Rhaenys Targaryen dead and King Aegon irreparably injured.
Aegon's younger brother Aemond, who was partly responsible for the king's condition, took over as Regent. Meanwhile, Daemon Targaryen mustered an army of men at Dragonstone while Rhaenyra raised an air force of dragon-riders at Dragonstone. The lot of them are set to clash in the season 2 finale. Watch the trailer below!
House of the Dragon season 2 Episode 8 finale date
- Air date: Sunday, August 4 at 8:00 p.m. CST/9 p.m. EST
- Run time: 1 hour, 13 minutes
- Network: HBO and Max
HBO has been holding the titles of the episodes close to its vest this season, so we don't know what the finale will be called. However, we do know that it runs for 73 minutes, which makes it not just the longest episode of the season but of the series as a whole. That trailer makes it look like a ton will happen, so it may well need every moment.
After the finale is over, we don't know how long we'll have to wait for House of the Dragon season 3, but it'll probably be a depressingly long time. HBO has renewed the show for season 3, and we've heard that filming could begin as early as later this year. I still wouldn't bet on the third season premiering before 2026, though.
