House of the Dragon topped the streaming charts in the middle of its second season

The second season of House of the Dragon is over, and we know the divisive season finale pulled in season-high ratings. But the show was doing pretty well even before that. Nielsen, the most reliable ratings outfit out there, is just not releasing streaming numbers for the week of July 8-14, the period starting the day after House of the Dragon what is easily the best episode of its second season, "The Red Dragon and the Gold." And for the first time this season, House of the Dragon claimed the number one spot with well over a billion minutes watched. And keep in mind this doesn't include viewers who were tuning into to watch the show linearly on HBO.
Viewership for House of the Dragon stayed steady during this period even as viewership for many other shows dropped. Here's the top 10 most streamed shows for the week of July 8-14:
- House of the Dragon (Max), 1.27 billion minutes viewers
- Bluey (Disney+), 1.08 billion
- Suits (Netflix/Peacock), 1.07 billion
- The Boys (Prime Video), 1.05 billion
- Love Island (Hulu/Netflix/Peacock), 1.03 billion
- Dexter (Netflix/Paramount+), 982 million
- Grey’s Anatomy (Hulu/Netflix), 957 million
- Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (Netflix), 917 million
- Your Honor (Netflix/Paramount+), 887 million
- Family Guy (Hulu), 850 million
You know your dragon show is doing something right when it beats Bluey, the kids show parents around the world turn on to distract their children so they can get a moment's peace.
These ratings will continue to come in over the next few weeks. The short version is that ratings for House of the Dragon are good, although they seem to have come down slightly from where they were in season 1. The long wait could be part of the problem. With a two-year wait ahead of us for season 3, the pattern may well repeat itself come 2026.
