AMC has dropped a short new teaser for the second season of Interview With The Vampire, its excellent adaptation of Anne Rice's classic horror novel. We get a few quick glimpses of what's in store, plus confirmation that the new season will premiere on May 12 on both AMC and AMC+! Watch the teaser trailer above.

I didn't expect much when I heard that AMC was making this show. The 1994 Interview With The Vampire movie still holds up, and vampires have been out of fashion for a while, particularly Rice's brand of eternally yearing, melancholic vampires. I was surprised and delighted when the show was sharp, fun, funny, sexy and scary. Vampires are back!

When we left our lead trio of vampires — the brooding Louis (Jacob Anderson), the violent Lestat (Sam Reid) and the newphyte Claudia — Louis and Claudia had conspired to leave Lestat for dead in New Orleans, although we know that Louis pulled a fast one and gave him an out. Season 2 will adapt the back half of Rice's book, where Lestat mostly doesn't appear. But as we can see in the trailer, he'll pop up in this version, which should make fans happy; unpredictable and abusive as he was, he was a thrilling character to watch.

Meanwhile, Louis and Claudia will travel to Paris where they'll look for other vampires. Claudia was played by Bailey Bass in the first season of the show but is now played by Delainey Hayles; we get another look at her in the teaser. We also see Louis make flirtatious eyes at the vampire Armand (Assad Zaman), who we know becomes his long-term partner.

I'm eager to get back into it. Bring on Halloween in May.
