Interview With The Vampire spinoff The Talamasca gets a star: Nicholas Denton
By Dan Selcke
Interview With The Vampire, a sumptuous adaptation of Anne Rice's classic 1976 vampire novel, is one of the best shows on TV; the second season, which wrapped up earlier this year, blew me away and I wait for the show to come back.
Unfortunately, that probably won't happen until 2026, despite AMC already releasing a very appetizing teaser. At least we know it's happening. In the meantime, the network has a couple of spinoffs in the offing. Mayfair Witches, based on another of Anne Rice's book series, already has a season out there; a second season is expected to come along sometime next year. And it won't stand alone: AMC is also working on The Talamasca, a six-episode series about the shadowy intelligence organization, present in several of Rice's novels, that keeps tabs on vampires, witches and other supernaturals beings.
An agent of the Talasmasca already showed up in the second season of Interview With The Vampire, slipping journalist Daniel Malloy some important information for his interview with the vampire Louis. The new show will revolve around a character named Guy Anatole, whom AMC describes as “brilliant, handsome and sharp on the surface, but he’s always known his mind works a little differently,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In The Talamasca, Guy is about to graduate law school when he's approached by the organization, which has apparently been tracking him since childhood. Why? Tune in to find out, I suppose. He falls into a world of secret agents and immortal beings, becoming wrapped up in the Talamasca's mission to protect humanity from the spooky creatures of the night who walk among us.
Guy will be played by Australian actor Nicholas Denton, who's appeared in TV shows like Glitch and Dangerous Liasons. He kinda looks like an understudy for Lestat. I really enjoyed Interview With The Vampire, but I question whether this universe immediately needs this many spinoffs while the original show is still pretty young. I guess we'll find out whether The Talasmasca is a worthwhile watch when it airs on AMC next year.
