The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on the Percy Jackson book series by Rick Riordan, has just aired its season finale, "The Prophecy Comes True." This was the eighth of eight episodes in the show's first season. There will not be a ninth episode airing on Disney+ next Tuesday night.
"The Prophecy Comes True" ended with Percy returning Zeus' stolen Master Bolt to the god of thunder, heading off a potential war between the gods of Olympus. He also told Zeus that his father Kronos was planning to emerge from the depths of Tartarus to plot a coup. And Percy's friend Luke is revealed to be working with Kronus, betraying Percy and fulfilling the prochecy from earlier in the season. And Percy's mom returns from the underworld. It's a busy episode.
But unfortunately, we won't get to see what happens next for a while, although you could always read ahead while you wait for new episodes. Riordan has written many Percy Jackson books.
Is Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 happening?
Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been a success on Disney+, but there has been no official announcement about a renewal. "I think everybody’s really focused on making sure that people have the reaction to the show that we’re hoping they will," showrunner Jon Steinberg said recently. "There are some people that spend their day thinking about what next season would look like, so hopefully, that work will become a little more official sooner than later."
So the cast and crew are ready, but they haven't gotten the go-ahead. The sooner Disney decides to give the green light, the better, because the young cast of the show will soon up and look ridiculous trying to play a bunch of middle school-age tweenagers. Let's hope for news soon.
