It's Danes vs Saxons in The Last Kingdom Board Game

The Last Kingdom Board Game lets you play as the Saxons or the Danes, although you can always switch sides at the last minute.

The Netflix show The Last Kingdom, a historical drama based on The Saxon Stories books by Bernard Cornwell, officially ended in 2023 with the release of the movie Seven Kings Must Die, which brought Uhtred of Bebbanburg's long bloody story to a close.

But just because the story is over doesn't mean the fun has to end. Enter The Last Kingdom Board Game from Gamelyn Games, which you can check out here. This has been out for a while, but there's still a lot interest in The Last Kingdom out there, so it's worth highlighting.

The object of the game is simple: conquer the island that will come to be known as Great Britain, now divided into smaller kingdoms here in the tenth century. According to a write-up by Bell of Lost Souls, rounds of The Last Kingdom Board Game are divided into three phases. In the first phase, players draw cards that allow them to do things like add, move or remove army tokens from regions on the board. In the second phase, they can use these cards or use their limited number of action tokens to use market actions, which are specializes actions that allow you to do things like switch sides in a battle if things aren't going your way, which has been known to happen on The Last Kingdom.

Then, in the third phase, the armies throw down! Winners are determined by the number of army and token tokens in whatever region where the battle is happening. Whichever player has the most victory points at the end of the cycle wins!

There probably won't be any more seasons of The Last Kingdom coming our way, although you are free to seek out Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories books if you want to learn about Uhtred's adventures. And if even that isn't enough, consider The Last Kingdom Board Game.
