Lord of the Rings e-books on sale for as low as $1.99 only today

Did you know that March 25 is the canonical day when the people of Middle-earth triumphed over the darkness that Sauron had cast over the land? Yep, today is the day when Frodo wrestled Gollum into the fires of Mount Doom, and the One Ring was finally unmade. Sauron's tower of Barad-dûr fell, the Eagles came, and there was much rejoining.
This is according to the Tolkien Society, which since 2003 has celebrated March 25 as Tolkien Reading Day, which is what it sounds like: a day dedicated to reading the works of The Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien.
Other companies have taken notice. Take Amazon, which is using the last day of its big spring sale to slash prices on J.R.R. Tolkien books for Kindle. You can find the full list here, but the ebooks go as low as $1.99 and as high as $2.99. If you're looking to read up on all things Middle-earth, this is a great opportunity.
Amazon is offering discounts on 34 different Tolkien titles. There are the obvious ones — The Lord of the Rings trilogy is on sale for $2.99. The Hobbit is just $1.99, as is Tolkien's book of Middle-earth prehistory The Silmarillion. Great tales like The Children of Húrin, The Fall of Gondolin and Beren and Lúthien are all $1.99 apiece. Even non-Middle-earth books like Tolkien's The Fall of Arthur are on offer, that one for $2.99. It's almost like someone went crazy and started slashing prices. But no, it's just March 25.
On the screen, we'll return to Middle-earth in the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which should air on Amazon sometime this year. You can totally blast through a few of these books by then.
