Interview With The Vampire on AMC was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2022, a sumptuous adaptation of Anne Rice's classic horror novel that was every bit as captivating as the 1994 movie while clearly forging its own path. A second season is coming in just a few months, and AMC is getting the word out, starting with a brief new trailer above.

The story of Interview With The Vampire is well-known: the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Game of Thrones veteran Jacob Anderson) narrates his long life story to a journalist, Daniel Malloy (Eric Bogosian) many decades after the fact. The AMC shows really leans into this framing device, with Louis occassionally caught lying about his life or misremembering something. In the second season, it looks like there are some things about his life he's confronted with he doesn't remember at all. It adds an extra layer to the show that I really enjoyed.

AMC also released a straight-forward clip from the show. In the past, Louis is in Paris with his little "sister" Claudia, a vampire that Louis and his former lover Lestat turned when she was still a child. The pair of them have escaped the abusive Lestat, but Louis is now experiencing something of an identity crisis. Is Claudia giving him permission to explore life outside of her, as Louis thinks, or is she hinting that this European sucks, as Daniel thinks? Judge for yourself after a special introduction by Jacob Anderson:

In the first season of Interview With The Vampire, Claudia was played by Bailey Bass. In season 2, she'll be played by Delainey Hayles. It'd be funny if they justified the switch by saying Louis misremembered her when he was narrating the first season. Given its focus on the fallibility of memory, the show could probably get away with that.

The second season of Interview With The Vampire premieres on May 12. If it's as good as the first season, we could have the makings of greatness on our hands.
