Matt Smith acknowledges Milly Alcock's casting as Supergirl: "What a legend"
By Dan Selcke
Not long ago, we learned that Milly Alcock — whom Game of Thrones fans fell in love with thanks to her turn as a young Rhaenyra Targaryen on the prequel show House of the Dragon — would be playing Supergirl in the upcoming movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It's very cool to see a young actor like Alcock get an opportunity to appear in a major movie like this, and we congratulate her.
And we're not the only ones. In a recent video, Alcock's House of the Dragon costars Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen) and Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole) reacted to some scenes from the first season. When Alcock showed up onscreen, they had to acknowledge her new gig. "Milly," Frankel beamed upon seeing her. "Supergirl now." Smith picked up the ball. "Supergirl, yeah," he said. "What a legend."
Milly Alcock did indeed cut a memorable figure as Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first half of House of the Dragon season 1, to the point where some fans were upset when the show's timeline jumped ahead 10 years and Alcock was replaced by actor Emma D'Arcy, who will play Rhaenyra for the remainder of the show. But fans soon warmed to D'Arcy, and Alcock was free to accept a role in James Gunn's new DC Cinematic Universe. Everyone wins.
There's no release date as of yet for Supergirl: World of Tomorrow, although we know it's going to start filming later this year, so a release in 2026 or 2027 seems likely. We've also heard that Alcock may first appear as Supergirl in an upcoming Superman movie starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. That one is coming out on July 11, 2025.
As for Smith and Frankel, they'll be back as Daemon Targaryen and Criston Cole in the second season of House of the Dragon, which will air on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16.
