Meet the extended cast of Avatar: The Last Airbender is spectacular new pictures
By Dan Selcke
Netflix is readying its lavish, live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the beloved animated show about a young man who can control all four elements saddled with the responsibility of bringing balance to a world at war. We've already met a lot of the principal cast, including Gordon Cormier as Aang, Ian Ousley and Kiawentiio as his traveling companions Sokka and Katara, and Dallas Liu as the ornery Prince Zuko.
But The Last Airbender has an enormous cast, and Netflix is releasing new images of the supporing players. Let's meet them, starting with Maria Zheng as Suki and Tamlyn Tomita as her mother Yukari:
Suki is part of a group of women known as the Kyoshi warriors. She has a role to play throughout the whole series. Someone with a lower profile is the Mechanist, a character who pops up in the first season and returns sporadically thereafter. He's played by Community alum Danny Pudi:
One of the more mysterious characters in the original Last Airbender show is Jet, a dashing young freedom fighter who may or may not die during a climatic moment in the show's second season. With the new series on Netflix rather than Nickelodeon, I'm betting we'll eventually get confirmation on that point. He's played by Sebastian Amoruso:
One of the cooler-looking characters is Arden Cho as June, a bounty hunter who rides a huge beast called a shirshu. After the first season drops, demand for shirshu plushies may be high.
And of course, you can't have a Last Airbender remake without Sokka and Katara's grandmother, known only as Gran Gran. She's played by Casey Camp-Horinek:
And let's end with one new pic of Cormier as Aang, meditating up a storm:
Netflix's live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender drops on February 22, 2024.
