The fifth and final season of Stranger Things has walked a rocky road behind the scenes, mainly due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023. But now the road is clear and season 5 is making good progress. While we don't know any plot details, the cast continues to build hype for the show's endgame.

Stranger Things 5 started filming in January, and production is still ongoing. Like other seasons, the process for Stranger Things 5 is really, really long. It's expected to continue filming for the next nine months. The longer it goes on, the more fans will be expecting. After four brilliant seasons, the show can't afford to fall apart at the final hurdle. However, the cast and crew are super impressed with what they've seen so far. Look no further than Millie Bobby Brown, who hailed it as "unbelievable."

"There's not much I can tease, but I know everybody's super excited," Brown told Screen Rant. "I just think if you've loved the seasons before, you trust [showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer]. They're geniuses, and they'll bring it like no other. And from what I've read, it is unbelievable, and I'm so excited for people to see it."

If one thing is for sure, the ending of season 4 set up the final season perfectly. In the final moments, after seemingly defeating the all-powerful entity Vecna, the hellish Upside Down landscape began to leak into the quaint town of Hawkins, Indiana. Clearly, the war is just getting started.

Stranger Things aside, Millie Bobby Brown's latest project is Damsel, a twisted fairy tale movie now streaming on Netflix.

Matt Duffer talks the Stranger Things ending

Ending a show as beloved as Stranger Things is a perilous task. Satisfying fans while delivering iconic moments and wrapping up the story is famously difficult. So many shows, not naming names, have crumbled at the endgame. With that said, co-creator Matt Duffer is aware of how not to do things.

"Endings of shows are like opening a restaurant in terms of the success-failure rate – there's an 80% failure rate, I'd say. But I think one very particular way to fail is to attempt to appease everybody," Duffer told The Guardian in December 2023.

The final season doesn't have a release date yet, but don't expect it to premiere this year. Sometime in 2025 or even early 2026 seems like a good estimate. In the meantime, we'll keep reading up on fan theories!
