Later this year, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon returns to our screens for its second season, subtitled The Book of Carol. That's right, in the new batch of episodes, Carol (Melissa McBride) heads to France and reunites with Daryl, camped inside his new community in Mont Saint-Michel.

Premiering in 2023, Daryl Dixon proved itself to be a fantastic addition to The Walking Dead Universe. It takes the franchise across the pond to Europe for the first time, with an entirely new cast and new threats in the form of variant walkers. Everything about it feels novel; it's very much a breath of fresh air.

In season 1, Daryl (Norman Reedus) washed up on the shores of France, wandering the desolate country and trying to find a means back home. He meets Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) and Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) and finds himself tied up in a quest. By the end of the series, Daryl decides against taking a ship back to the United States, favoring his new life in France. Little does he know that Carol is on her way to meet him.

Reedus himself has found a new home in France while filming the show. In fact, he's about to start work on more episodes. "We're about to start Season 3," he told Collider. While he can't spoil any plot points from the upcoming second season, he does tease that the finale is right up there with the very best The Walking Dead Universe has to offer. "But I will say the finale of Season 2 is the best one-hourWalking Dead anything ever. I've said it in press before. I stick to it. It's mind-blowing.”

In addition, Reedus weighed in on how much longer he expects to continue portraying Daryl, whom he's playing since the very first season of The Walking Dead in 2010. He's featured in more episodes across the franchise than any other character, having been Daryl for over a decade at this point. And while the main show is over, Reedus doesn't expect to end Daryl's journey anytime soon.

“I think it's got some time left in it," Reedus explained. "I want that character to end correctly. It started correctly and I put too much work into it to be a drone shot waving goodbye. You know what I mean? I want him to get his justice. It still has a huge fan base. I get mobbed all the time because of that show."

To see just how massive the fandom is, Reedus directs our attention to how much passion the French showed in the spinoff. "In France, when the posters went up, it was bananas."

There's plenty of life left in The Walking Dead yet. Daryl Dixon season 2, The Book of Carol premieres September 29 on AMC.
