Outlander cast was in tears filming eighth and final season
By Ariba Bhuvad
The end is nigh for Outlander. We still have the second half of season 7 to go, followed by the eighth and final season. We still likely have at least a year (maybe more) before that last season premieres, but it is inevitable, and I don't think we are ready for what is to come.
According to Express.co.uk, star Richard Rankin (Roger Wakefield) said the final chapter will leave fans in tears and is set to be incredibly emotional. As a day one fan, that does not surprise me because this story has been a decade in the making; there's no one fans won't be a mess watching at home.
While we do not know the final season's premiere date yet, we do know that Season 7, Part 2 will begin airing on November 22 and will feature eight episodes. Apart from that, it looks like all the fans can do is grab your tissue boxes and keep them on standby, because starting November, we are definitely going to need them!
Richard Rankin talks "very emotional read-through" of Outlander's final season
“It was a very emotional read-through,” Rankin said. “We had photos up from all the past seasons of the show.” Can you imagine how difficult and emotional that must have been?!
Outlander season 8 is currently filming in Scotland. They've been shooting a lot of the places we came to grow and love from season 1, including the locations for Castle Leoch and Lallybroch. Recently, the cast has been filming scenes at Castle Leoch, and it has been a blast frmo the past.
When speaking to Square Mile, Rankin shared, “You can feel the nostalgia and what it meant to people. There were a lot of tears in the room that day.”
It's clear that the final season is going to have us ugly crying, but let's not discount Season 7, Part 2 which is just around the corner. According to Rankin, “The second half of season seven is really some of the best stuff I think we’ve shot for Outlander. It’s an incredible adventure for Roger, because we don’t often see him without [his wife] Brianna – they’ve always been such a team.”
I, for one, am really excited about the fact that Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger are split up not just by distance but by time. They have always been a duo, so this separation is going to make for some interesting storylines. I truly cannot wait for what is to come, especially with Roger, Jamie (Sam Heughan), Claire (Caitriona Balfe), and Ian (John Hunter Bell) all in Scotland. What the heck is going to happen?!
Tune in on November 22 as Season 7, Part 2 premieres and begins the inevitable journey towards the end. Beyond that, there's always the upcoming prequel series:
