Outlander season 7B releases dozens of new images, confirming the return of iconic characters
By Daniel Roman
Outlander has long been one of Starz's flagship shows, and right now it's in the midst of a particular high point. Thanks to the pandemic, Outlander's sixth season had a truncated run of only eight episodes. That made a lot of fans sad back in 2022, but the show is in the middle of making up for it with a supersized seventh season, which will run for 16 episodes. The first half of the season premiered last summer, with the next batch due to drop just a few months from now. Come November, we'll all be going back to Frasier's Ridge!
And Starz is ready to get us plenty excited for it. The network has released over two dozen new images, featuring everyone from time-traveling lovers Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) to their extended family and even some unexpected faces from the past.
There are a lot of images to parse through, but let's start with the two I think are the most exciting. I suppose this could be considered a spoiler, but if Starz is putting it out in official images how much of one could it really be? Check 'em out, then we'll talk:
Yup, that's Graham McTavish as Dougal MacKenzie and Lotte Verbeek as Geillis! These two have been dead for a long time on Outlander, since season 2 and 3 respectively. But with time travel involved, there's no telling how they could come back into the picture in season 7. Out of everything we've learned about this season so far, this probably has me the most excited. Geillis and Dougal left a huge mark on Outlander, and I can't even begin to imagine what their return could mean.
Next, let's catch up with Claire:
And Jaime:
And some shots with Claire and Jamie together, as they should be:
Things are bound to get more complicated than ever this season. When last we saw Claire and Jamie, they were headed back to Scotland. You know who else lives in Scotland? Jamie's ex-wife Laoghaire (Nell Hudson), who does not seem especially happy to see him:
Some more shots of Scotland! Presumably this is the arrival of Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian (John Bell) at Jamie's family estate of Lallybrach:
There are a few other images of Young Ian as well. Here's a nice portrait that shows off how he's incorporating both his Scottish roots and his time with the Mohawk into his clothing choices:
Ian will also be spending more time with Rachel Hunter (Izzy Meikle-Small) this season. It looks like romance is brewing!
Back to Claire, who's doing some medical work on a sickly patient:
Claire isn't the only doctor around at this point in the series. Here she is talking with Doctor Denzell Hunter (Joey Phillips), Rachel's brother:
And here's a solo shot of Denzell:
Next we catch up with Claire and Jamie's daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and her husband Roger (Richard Rankin). And these images are interesting. We've got one image of Richard in his 18th Century period garb:
BUT LO! Our next images have Roger and Brianna in 1980s clothing. Time travel!
There are also a slew of images that feature Lord John Grey (David Berry) and his adoptive son William (Charles Vandevaart), who is Jamie's biological son from his time at Ardsmuir Prison. Here's Lord John Grey talking with Claire:
And here he is with William:
While Jamie and Claire know that the American colonies will win the Revolutionary War, William is a red coat fighting for the British. No doubt that'll create a lot of tension in the rest of season 7. Here he is, taking aim:
Outlander season 7B begins airing on Starz on November 22. Episodes drop Fridays at midnight ET on the Starz app, followed by a linear airing at 8:00 p.m. ET.
