Outlander star Richard Rankin contemplates the end of the series and what comes next
By Ariba Bhuvad
We only have a season-and-a-half left until Outlander is over forever, and the cast and crew are thinking about the end and contemplating what comes next. That includes Richard Rankin, who plays Roger MacKenzie, husband of Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) and son-in-law of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe). He talked to HeyUGuys about filming the eighth and final season.
When asked if there is a sense of relief when a project ends, Rankin said that there is always a sense of excitement as you think about what projects you might take on next. However, he isn't sure "how [he] is going to feel" when all is said and done.
According to Rankin, Outlander season 8 "just started filming a few weeks ago." Apparently the table read was "way more emotional than anyone thought it was going to be." Rankin said there was "genuine sentiment around the table" which "sort of opened people's eyes to how we may feel when we finish."
When looking forward to the end of Outlander, Rankin isn't entirely sure how he feels or how he will feel. He just knows that this chapter of his life is closing, and with it will come more opportunities, but also potentially "an emptiness or a vacuum." It's unclear how he will handle it all, but as the interviewer said, there will "one hell of a wrap party" to look forward to. We're certain Heughan will have his scotch at the ready to celebrate with the cast and crew!
Outlander Season 8 is currently filming but does not have a premiere date as of yet. However, the second half of season 7 will premiere sometime in November!
