Outlander: Tobias Menzies will not return for the final season
By Ariba Bhuvad
Outlander is currently gearing up to air the second part of its seventh season later this year. After that, all that's left is the show's eighth and final chapter. The conclusion of Jamie and Claire Fraser's story will be one for the ages, and one that fans aren't ready to accept quite yet.
Luckily, there is a spin-off (currently filming in Glasgow) that will keep the spirit of Outlander alive: Blood of My Blood will revolve around Jamie and Claire's parents in their respective time periods. Just recently, Starz released a list of actors who will be playing the younger versions of characters from the flagship show, such as Murtagh Fitzgibbons, Dougal and Colum MacKenzie, and Ned Gowan.
But that's still a ways off, so all eyes are on how the final season of Outlander will wrap things up. Fans are curious as to what characters may make a cameo before the end. One of the most asked-about characters is Frank Randall/Black Jack Randall, played by the incomparable Tobias Menzies.
Luckily for us, Menzies has shed some light the lingering questions about his potential return. Find out what he had to say about it below!
Tobias Menzies addresses the Outlander question on everyone's mind
In an interview with TVLine, Menzies shared whether or not he would make a cameo in Outlander's final season. “It would be great. [But] no, you will not see me," the revealed.
While we may love Menzies as an actor, there is a sense of relief in knowing that we won't be seeing Black Jack Randall again. I wouldn't mind seeing Claire's ex-husband Frank Randall again, but no thank you to his evil, awful ancestor who treated all those around him (including Claire and Jamie) in such vicious ways.
This will mark a change from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander books; Black Jack pops up in the ninth book, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. If he were to be in the show, it would have likely been through flashbacks and visions as Black Jack Randall has long since passed on the Starz series. In any case, this is not something we have to think about after Menzies' confirmation that he is indeed not going to be making an appearance.
Be that is it may, there is still a lot to look forward to from the back half of season 7, and of course the final season of Outlander. We do not have premiere dates for either as of yet, but rest assured, we will provide them as soon as we know.
