Early in the morning on Saturday, April 6, the Disney+ Instagram page uploaded a photo of actors Logan Lerman and Percy Scobell posing together:
Both of these actors have played Percy Jackson, the title character in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books, about a kid who finds out that he's actually the son of the Greek god Poseidon. Adventures ensue shortly thereafter. Lerman played Percy in a pair of movies in the early 2010s: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in 2010 and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters in 2013. Meanwhile, Scobell plays Percy in the new TV show Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. The first season aired in 2023 and a second is on the way.
It's fun to see these two actors together, and obviously fans are enjoying themselves online. Lerman has been supportive of Scobell taking on the role. During a live taping of the podcast Happy Sad Confused just before the Disney+ show aired, host Josh Horowitz relayed a message from Lerman to Scobell. “The show looks amazing,” Lerman shared. “I can’t wait to see you all crush it in your roles. You’re making a lot of people happy bringing these characters to life. I can’t imagine a better fit for Percy Jackson than Walker. You were so brilliant in The Adam Project. Hope you like eating blue food the next few years because I think you have a hit show on your hands.”
If you're wondering, apparently Percy eats a lot of blue food in the books: blue birthday cake, blue jelly beans, that kind of thing. No judgment. At the time, Lerman and Scobell hadn't met, although Scobell DMed Logan after watching him in The Perks of Being a Wallflower to pay him his compliments. Now, clearly, the two have met in the flesh.
There's no official release date for the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians as of yet, but sometime in 2025 seems like a safe bet.
