Silo season 2 premieres this year, meaning both seasons will finish before Severance returns

The wonderful dorks at Apple TV+ love their sci-fi. We have the second season of Silo coming in November, followed immediately by the second season of Severance in January.

Between shows like For All Mankind, Dark Matter, Invasion, Foundation, Severance and Silo, Apple TV+ has become the place to go for science fiction. The people running things over there are obviously big giant dorks and we couldn't be happier.

Up next is the second season of Silo, about a community of people who have been living in an underground bunker for generations, supposedly because the surface world is dangerous following a catastrophic war. But who wants to bet that there's more to it than that? Go ahead, ante up. Juliette Nichols (Dune's Rebecca Ferguson) is determined to get to the bottom of things.

Per The A.V. Club, the 10-episode second season of Silo will premiere on Friday, November 15, with a new episode airing every week. That means the show will return about a year-and-a-half after the first season wrapped up in June of 2023. Compared to shows like House of the Dragon, The Rings of Power and Stranger Things, which go multiple years in between seasons, that's actually pretty quick. More of this kind of thing, please.

Severance, possibly Apple's biggest sci-fi hit to date, follows a more familiar, dispiriting path. The show, about a group of office workers who have undergone a procedure that make it so they can't remember what they did at work when they're at home and vice versa, premiered its first season back in February of 2022. Filming on the second season was delayed by some behind-the-scenes problems as well as the 2023 actors and writers strikes. Season 2 will premiere on January 17, 2025, nearly three years after the first season dropped.

That is a long time to wait for new episodes, even with extenuating circumstaces. Whatever shows can do to speed things up and be a little more like Silo, they should do.

Meanwhile, we have no word on release dates for future seasons of For All Mankind, Invasion and Foundation, which probably means we'll be waiting a while for those as well.
