Snowpiercer star Daveed Diggs boards The Boys for its final season

We don't know who Daveed Diggs will play, but the odds that he'll be a depraved superhero seem pretty high.

Snowpiercer, the show where Daveed Diggs plays a freedom fighter aboard a train rocketing through a dystopian wasteland, literally just wrapped up a few days ago, which means Diggs is newly unemployed. Hooray for good timing: it's been announced on the official page for The Boys that Diggs will be joining the show for its fifth and final season, although we don't have any details on who he'll be playing:

Diggs originally broke out after playing Thomas Jefferson and the Marquis de Lafayette in the Broadway smash Hamilton, and has worked consistently onscreen since. In addition to his lead role in Snowpiercer, he's done a lot of voice work; he was Sebastian the crab in Disney's Little Mermaid remake and has roles in series like Central Park, Star Wars: Visions, Star Trek: Prodigy and Invincible.

Like The Boys, Invincible is an ultra-violent superhero show on Amazon Prime Video, so that experience in particular should come in handy. Whoever Diggs plays, I'm sure he'll be a good addition to The Boys. Considering the show's history, the odds seem good that he'll play a morally compromised superhero who has some disgusting kink, dies a horrible death, or both.

The Boys has been a rock-solid consistent show for years now, both an entertaining underdog story about a rag-tag group of rabble-rousers taking down the system as well as an incisive, bloody critique of superhero movies and the authoritarian right. It also loves to spill blood, and while there have been relatively few major character deaths throughout the series, things started to ramp up in season 4 and I imagine that showrunner Eric Kripke won't pull his punches now that the end is in sight.

Expect to see the final episodes of The Boys start to air sometime in 2026. In the meanwhile, a second season of the spinoff Gen V is teed up for 2025.
