Take the Black: Final verdict on Star Wars: The Acolyte, Emmys rundown, dragon stuff
By Dan Selcke
Every week (twice a week these days) we were at WinterIsComing gather in a shared safe digital space to discuss the latest happenings in the worlds of sci-fi, fantasy, movies, TV and books. It's Take the Black, and it's beamed directly from our mouths to your brains. Watch our latest episode below:
The first (and maybe only?) season of Star Wars: The Acolyte wrapped up just the other day, so we had to weigh in on that. This show has taken a lot of flack since it premiered on Disney+ last month, for reasons both legitimate and problematic. We agree that it isn't the best Star Wars show Disney has yet put out, but is it the worst, or is it merely mediocre? The answer may surprise you...or not, I can't read minds.
In less contentious news, we talk about the new Emmy nominations; the wonderful historical series Shōgun got a show-best 25 nominations and it deserves every one of them. Also: what's the correct way to draw a dragon? George R.R. Martin answers the question no one was asking but everyone wants to know.
Finally, we wrap up by sharing what we're watching and reading (and asking you to share with us) and running down the rest of the news in the WiC News Lightning Round. And somehow we find time to talk about The Boys and The Gilded Age as well as experience some hilarious technical difficulties. It's all in a day's show.
