Take the Black: Why George R.R. Martin objects to screenwriters making books "their own"
By Dan Selcke
Welcome back to Take the Black, the weekly chat show where we editors here at WinterIsComing.net talk about all things sci-fi, fantasy, movies, TV and books. Our regular co-host Daniel Roman has been gone for a couple weeks doing some very important work and some even more important relaxing, but he's back this week with some news: he went to the Worldcon sci-fi fan fantasy convention in Glasgow and got to interview none other than A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin!
We're working on polishing up the interview to get it ready for you. In the meantime, Martin is making plenty of waves without our help. He talked at the Oxford Writers House about The Winds of Winter, adaptations, the morality of changing classic books for modern audiences, and more. A few of his comments inspired some pretty deep discussions about art, artists, and the sensibilities of different sorts of authors. Watch us jaw about all of it below! And of course, because these shows are live, a lot of you chimed in as well, which just made the debate more fun.
Beyond that, we talk about some of the stuff we're watching, including Alien: Romulus and Industry, a little-seen HBO drama that deserves more love. And we top it all off with the WiC News Lightning Round, where we speed-round all the news we couldn't get to in the main body of the show. Welcome back, Daniel!
The Take the Black Podcast is on iTunes and YouTube Music! Please subscribe and download from there if you can. Also, you can help us out by giving us a five-star rating and leaving a friendly comment! We’re also now on Spreaker, so try us there, as well.
We stream new episodes of Take the Black every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. CST on the WinterIsComing YouTube and Facebook pages. I'm sure we'll be talking more about our George R.R. Martin interview in the near future. Plus the new season of The Rings of Power is around the corner. There's lots to look to forward to, so join us for the ride!
