The Ark season 2 trailer teases the dangerous search for a new home

The end of The Ark season 1 saw our characters searching for a new home in the vast reaches of space. Things get dangerous when the crew runs into two more Arks.

We knew the characters on the SyFy show The Ark will be searching for a new home in season 2. The newly released trailer makes it clear that the mission will be far more dangerous than anticipated. Watch below:

Season 1 ended with the reveal that the planet Ark-1, which our characters had thought would be their new home, wasn’t safe. It exploded, damaging the Ark. Garnet (Christie Burke) turned to Ark-15 for help, despite Maddox (Jelena Stupljanin) originally proving to be selfish and focused on her own survival. She took them in, and at first, it looked like the second season would be focused on the two crews surviving together.

That doesn’t seem to be the case now. The new trailer gives us hope that Ark-1 will be able to get back on the hunt for a new home alone. However, it comes with some dangerous complications.

Ark-3 and Ark-8 turn up in The Ark season 2

There were at least 15 Arks sent into space on the hunt for a new place to settle humanity. We already came across one of them in the first season: Ark-3, which had been attacked by Ark-15. This Ark surprisingly had Felix’s husband on it, which led to questions about where his daughter is.

It looks like we’ll come across Ark-3 again in season 2. This could be a salvage mission. And in the trailer, we see that Ark-8 will send out a distress call. Electricity is shooting out of that Ark and killing people.

There is a chance that other ships will turn up. They were all sent to different places to find a new home for humans. Could we find one with Felix’s daughter? I get the sense he isn’t going to stop looking for her now that he knows she's out there somewhere.

Trouble out in space in The Ark

I’ve described The Ark as a political show that happens to be set in space, very much like The Expanse. Of course, some space action is still needed, and we’ll get that in the second season. Ark-8 seems to have landed on a planet, which could have something to do with why electricity is attacking people. Eva (Tiana Upcheva) has gone out to check on the situation, which makes sense considering her engineering skills. Garnet refuses to leave Eva out there.

It also looks like our characters will encounter some sort of storm, and it will knock at least one person out into space, although it's hard to tell who it is. I know there need to be causalities in shows like this, but I’m not ready to say goodbye to characters just yet.

Garnet makes a point that she didn’t grow up with a family. Now that she has one, so she won’t let it go. We have to believe that she’ll fight to get every member of her crew back, and they will fight for her.

The Ark season 2 premieres on SyFy on Wednesday, July 17.
