The Boys creator knows how the series ends: "I know what happens"

The Boys boss Eric Kripke has a rather hilarious history of predicting when his shows will end. He previously worked on Supernatural, where he laid out a five-season plan... and the series went on for 15 seasons. So when it comes to how long The Boys will last, we take his predictions with a pinch of salt.

The fourth season of The Boys drops this month on Prime Video, and the series is showing no signs of slowing down. Quite the opposite, in fact; Prime Video has already green-lit a fifth season, plus another season of spinoff Gen V. The Boys season 4 certainly feels like an endgame, with both Billy Butcher — now ostracized from the Boys — and a ruthless, unhinged Homelander once again facing off against each other. Eric Kripke knows how The Boys will end

Looking ahead to the show's ultimate ending, Kripke knows how the endgame will play out. “You can’t build a show that’s about these two forces of Homelander and Butcher slowly closing in on each other without bringing that to a head,” he told Empire. “Whenever that last episode occurs, I know what happens.”

What's most important is that the ending comes at the right time. The last thing everyone wants is for The Boys to outstay its welcome. “I’m very aware of the ironic position this puts us in. I think about it every day, how important it is: even if we’re telling more stories in this world, that we don’t fucking sell out.”

As for when that time will arrive, he doesn't know, and he certainly won't be throwing out predictions again. Lessons have been learned from his time on Supernatural. "I have learned since then to not try to call the seasons as the person who, and this is without hyperbole, is literally the most wrong in entertainment history of how many seasons their show should go. I need to keep my mouth shut. And so I will.” At least he can look to the source comic book series this time for guidance of how to end the saga.
