The fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy drops on Netflix this August, and we finally have a trailer to whet our appetites. Watch below:
The Umbrella Academy has been the little superhero series that could for years now. The show follows seven superpowered foster siblings adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, an eccentric and borderline abusive billionaire who is alive or dead depending on which universe or timeline the group finds themselves in. All seven members of the Umbrella Academy are deeply maladjusted and usually find themselves trying to prevent an apocalypse they also had a hand in bringing about. You can't take them anywhere.
In this newest season, the family have lost their superpowers, although based on the trailer it looks like they'll get them back at some point. The trailer has all the wacky, off-color energy fans have come to expect from this show. It's set to a cover of "The Final Countdown" by Europe and at one point there's a shot of Santa Claus running down the street blazing machine guns. If you want one image that sums up the show, it might be that one.
The final season of The Umbrella Academy has fewer episodes than previous outings: six compared to the usual 10. The reduction is probably due to Netflix not wanting to spend a mint on a show that, while it has its fans, has never become a pop cultural phenomenon. Stranger Things this ain't.
But at least those fans will get a proper conclusion to the story, and knowing this show, it'll live up to expectations. The fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy drops on August 8.
