The third episode of House of the Dragon season 2 is its second-longest ever
By Dan Selcke
The first season of House of the Dragon ran for 10 episodes. Those episodes ran as short as 54 minutes and as long as 67. The average came out to 62.
The second season of the show, airing now, only has eight episodes, which is a bummer. On the other hand, they seem to be longer on average. The season 2 premiere, "A Son for a Son," ran for an hour and four minutes, above the average for season 2. The upcoming second episode, which airs this Sunday night, runs for an hour and 12 minutes, which means it's the longest episode in the show's history so far.
Looking ahead on HBO's schedule, we can see that the upcoming third episode of House of the Dragon season 2 runs for an hour and 10 minutes, which makes it the second longest episode in the show's history, behind only Episode 202. Episode 204 will be an hour on the dot. That one will feature a huge battle scene, so it makes sense that it'll be a tad shorter, even though that's still decently long.
I wish the second season had 10 full episodes, but I do appreciate these episodes running longer so we can luxuriate in the story. Here are all the runtimes we know for House of the Dragon season 2 so far:
- Episode 201: June 16 (1 hour, 4 minutes)
- Episode 202: June 23 (1 hour, 12 minutes)
- Episode 203: June 30 (1 hour, 10 minutes)
- Episode 204: July 7 (60 minutes)
- Episode 205: July 14
- Episode 206: July 21
- Episode 207: July 28
- Episode 208: August 4
New episodes of House of the Dragon run Sunday nights on HBO and Max.
