There's only episode of Invincible left this season, but good news after that

The first season of Invincible, adapted from Robert Kirkman's comic of the same name, dropped on Amazon Prime Video in 2021 and pretty much instantly found a devoted audience. The tale of teenage superhero Mark Grayson was earnest, unexpectedly, and increasingly complex, as the show layered new characters and storylines on top of each other. Invincible continued to expand in season 2, which is airing right now, although fans had to wait a long while to start enjoying it. The season 1 finale aired in April of 2021. The first episode of season 2 dropped in July of 2023, over two years later. And we only four new episodes before the show went on a hiatus, with the back half of season 2 starting to air in March of this year.

And next Thursday, April 5, Invincible season 2 will be over! In some ways it feels like it was just getting started. Will we have to wait this long again for season 3?

If showrunner Simon Racioppa has his way, absolutely not. "Amazon picked up [seasons 2 and 3] together," he toldThe Direct. "So, we are deep in Season 3 at this point. So I can't tell you exactly [when], but I can tell you it will not be the same wait between [seasons] 1 and 2... We're well in progress on Season 3, and it's coming along great."

Other cast and crew members back up this statement. Actor Jason Mantzoukas (Rex Splode) said he already recorded his dialogue for season 3, which he describes as "bananas." Animation takes time even when producers don't have to deal with actors and writers strikes like they did in 2023, but it's clear that work on Invincible season 3 is already pretty far along.

But that doesn't answer the million-dollar question: When will we be watching Invincible season 3? With so much work already done, there's no chance we have to wait another two years. At the latest, Invincible season 3 will premiere sometime in 2025. And there's an outside chance it could start airing by the end of 2024. Remember: season 2 officially kicked off in 2023; the only reason it's still airing is because Amazon took a break in the middle. I'm hoping for the best, because Invincible has quickly become one of the finest superhero shows on TV and I want to keep that roll going.
