Interview With The Vampire, Anne Rice's classic 1976 novel about melancholic vampires spending eternity in brooding homoeroticism, is having a moment. The second season of AMC's Interview With The Vampire show, which stars Jacob Anderson as newbie vampire Louis and Sam Reid as the predatory Lestat, kicks off in just a coupe weeks. And if that isn't enough Vampire to sate your bloodlust, you can always watch the 1994 movie with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise as Louis and Lestat. It's a great, moody horror drama that's aged quite well.

It was also a big success, raking in $223 million on a budget of $50 million. It was such a big hit, in fact, that star Christian Slater — who played Daniel Molloy, the journalist who interviews the titular vampire — was shocked it never got a sequel, and apparently Cruise agreeed with him.

"Tom Cruise and I were both surprised that Interview With The Vampire didn’t get a sequel," Slater said while talking to Comicbook.com’s Chris Killian’s. "You know, that would have been fun. Uh, I mean, he did bite me at the end of that thing."

Interview With The Vampire did get a sort of sequel in the form of 2002's Queen of the Damned, a much schlockier movie that starred Stuart Townsend as Lestat. Fun as it was, it didn't really capture the original magic of the '94 interview movie; none of the original cast members were involved, nor was director Neil Jordan.

And there were other avenues to explore with Lestat specifically, like adapting Anne Rice's 1985 book The Vampire Lestat, technically the next book in the series after Interview. The good news is that the second season of the AMC show may bite into some of this material, although it will do it without Cruise. If he shows up for a cameo, fans everywhere will trill with glee.

We'll find out how AMC approaches things when the second season of Interview With The Vampire premieres on May 12.
