The third season of The Legend of Vox Machina, based on a live-streamed Dungeons & Dragons game played out by the troupe of voice actors from Critical Role, premieres next week on Prime Video, and Amazon is trying to drum up hype. To that end, you can now watch all 24 episodes of the series yet released — 12 episodes per season — for free on the Prime Video YouTube channel. Here's the series premiere to get you started:
The Legend of Vox Machina is based on a D&D game and it feels like a D&D game: a group of adventurers get mixed up in a number of quests as they level up and grow more powerful. That said, the show can be more deliberate than the free-form D&D game with exploring characters and plotting story arcs; the producers have promised that the upcoming third season will bring the angst and break viewers' hearts, and I'm sure there will be a lot of goofy off-the-wall humor as well.
That's the caveat to the "watch every episode for free" offer, by the way: you can only access the episodes until October 3, when the first three episodes of Vox Machina season 3 drop on Prime Video. Clearly, Amazon is hoping a lot of people will check out the first two seasons, fall in love, and decide to tune in for the third. And it's not a bad plan. The show is fleet-footed, fun, fantastical, and goes down pretty easy. You probably know if you're the kind of fantasy dork who would enjoy this sort of show, and if you are, why not check it out for free?
The third season of Vox Machina will find our heroes continuing to face off with the Chroma Conclave, a band of tyrannical dragons. The main characters are voiced by the likes of Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Matthew Mercer, Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham, with folks like Stephanie Beatriz, Ralph Ineson and David Tennant showing up to play supporting characters.
See you on October 3! Episodes will be released three-per-week on Thursdays after that.
