Robert Pattinson teases 'big swings' ahead in The Batman Part II

While on the red carpet for his latest movie 'The Drama', Robert Pattinson took a moment to rhapsodise about Matt Reeves’ “extraordinary” The Batman: Part II.

The Batman: Part II is slated to premiere in October 2027, with filming expected to begin in April 2026. Ahead of once more donning the cape as the Dark Knight, star Robert Pattinson has revealed that he was blown away by Matt Reeves’ “extraordinary” scripts, adding that the forthcoming sequel takes some “big swings.”

Matt Reeves debuted his Batman movie in 2021, and it was a massive success, garnering over $770 million at the global box office. The movie portrays Bruce Wayne in his second year as the caped crusader. At this point in the story, Wayne is intense, emotionally unstable, and lacks the traditional billionaire persona; he’s socially detached and, all things considered, a bit of a weirdo. Other iterations of the character, as played by Michael Keaton and Christian Bale, were much more outgoing socially.

Reeves' franchise expanded a couple of years later in 2024 with award-winning drama The Penguin, marking the return of Colin Farrell as the titular villain. The Batman: Part II follows the events of The Penguin, taking on a more wintery atmosphere in Gotham. No plot details for the sequel have been revealed yet, but the movie is expected to draw inspiration from iconic comics storyline Batman: The Long Halloween from Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale, which is often described as the definitive origin story for Harvey Dent/Two Face.

While promoting his latest movie The Drama, Pattinson recently spoke to Deadline, where he celebrated Reeves’ upcoming sequel.

“The script is extraordinary,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a really, really special movie and very, very different. It’s going to be interesting, it’s taking some big swings.”

The sequel has already made some big swings in terms of casting, adding a couple of major names in key roles. This includes two Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans: Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.

Johansson’s role is currently undisclosed, although rumors suggest she could be playing Gilda Dent, the wife of Harvey Dent. Meanwhile, Sebastian Stan will play District Attorney Harvey Dent — who, of course, goes on to become legendary villain Two-Face. Plus Barry Keoghan's Joker will have a larger presence after making only a brief cameo in the 2022 film. There's no shortage of villains involved, that's for sure.

The Batman: Part II is expected to premiere in theatres in October 2027, just in time for Halloween. In the meantime, DC movies will continue to expand in James Gunn and Peter Safran's self-contained DC Universe. Next up is Supergirl, headlined by House of the Dragon alum Milly Alcock.
