Rumor: Trailer for HBO's new Game of Thrones spinoff coming in May?

It's about time for HBO to start advertising A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and the May Upfronts could be the perfect time.

The second season of House of the Dragon, HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series, wrapped up last year, with a third on the way. That would be out until sometime next year. But HBO isn't going to let us wait that long to return to Westeros: later this year, it will debut A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a new prequel series set decades after the events of House of the Dragon but decades before Game of Thrones.

The new show is based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas by George R.R. Martin, about a stalwart knight named Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his precocious young squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Together, they travel the Seven Kingdoms looking for work and having adventures. The show will be a lighter affair than either of its sister series; there are no dragons or huge battles. Martin himself loves what he's seen and is looking forward to this change of pace.

We've seen little snippets of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms here and there, and HBO kindly released the image of Ser Duncan above, but that's about it. With the show airing this year, it seems high time for HBO to give us something more substantive: where's our teaser trailer, or full trailer, or release date, or interviews, or anything like that? We know Martin loves the show, we know HBO has shown off a trailer for insiders, we know they're confident enough in the show to start planning for future seasons already...Time to share the wealth!

That time may be coming. Westerosies, an X account that keeps its finger on the pulse of all things Westeros, says that a trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms may debut on May 14, when HBO's parent company Warner Bros. Discovery does its Upfront presentation. An Upfront is basically when a studio or streamer puts on a presentation showing off what it has in the pipeline to attract advertising dollars. Warner Bros. will hold its next Upfront on May 14. Is that when we'll finally get a trailer for this show?

Westerosies points out that HBO debuted the trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 at its May Upfronts presentation last year, which is true. However, by that point, we'd already seen a teaser trailer for the new season, whereas with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms we've gotten barely anything. I can definitely see HBO releasing a teaser trailer for the new show on May 14, followed by a full trailer a couple months later and then a premiere date sometime in the fall. We'll find out together, soon enough.
