Sam Heughan admits to stealing stuff from the Outlander set

The seventh season of Outlander wrapped up just the other week. There's only one more season to go, and cast members like Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) already filmed their parts for it a while back. “It was a long time coming," he recently told The New York Post. "We obviously knew we were in the last season, so the whole season was hard to shoot. You had moments where you were very aware of it, and other times where it’s just another day on set. The last day, let’s just say there were a lot of tears and celebration.”

I'm sure there will be plenty of tears and celebration among fans when the series finale of Outlander airs, but they don't have to worry about that for a while. In the meantime, The New York Post kept things a little lighter and asked Heughan if he stole anything from set before he left for good. He admitted that he did, although he wouldn't give specifics. “Nothing special. Nothing big," he said. "There’s a few things where, just as I was leaving, I felt a little bit emboldened and was like, ‘I’m going to take that with me!’”

In addition to the stuff that he purloined, Heughan was also gifted a number of props from the show, including — and this one is kinda wild — a prosthetic scar he wore on his back from when Jamie was whipped in his youth. “That’s been framed, and is on my wall,” Heughan said, not weirdly at all.

Heughan also revealed that he was given a full set of Jamie Fraser clothes. "I have his boots, his kilt, his jacket, his hat and wig,” he said. “I suppose if I ever needed to, I could present a full Jamie in my house —  if I’m ever missing him that much.”

Is Sam Heughan going to play James Bond or what?

Now that Heughan is finished with Outlander, what will his next project be? The actor has been asked for years whether he'd consider playing James Bond, a role that's been open ever since Daniel Craig made his final appearance as the legendary super-spy in 2021's No Time To Die.

“I don’t know. I certainly haven’t heard anything,” Heughan said. “I know every British actor that’s ever worn a suit is probably talked about [in connection with the Bond role] at some point.”

Like the first actor to play James Bond, Sean Connery, Sam Heughan is Scottish, so there's a connection there. “Certainly, it would be a great undertaking," Heughan said. "I’m a huge fan of James Bond...I was recently in Switzerland where they shot part of [the 1962 Bond movie] ‘Dr. No’ and sat in the same seat that Sean Connery had a martini in...It was cool to see a bit of history.”

That is indeed cool, but whether that means Heughan actually wants to step into James Bond's shoes is another matter entirely. “I don’t know if I’d go from one iconic character to the next,” he mused.

For years, we've heard nothing official about who might play the next James Bond, so anything is possible. Back to Outlander, the eighth and final season is coming round the bend; expect it to air later this year or maybe early in 2026. While fans wait for that, a new Outlander prequel series called Blood of My Blood will air on Starz this summer.
