Sophie Turner thinks it would be 'amazing' to return as Sansa Stark in a Game of Thrones spinoff

Would a famous Game of Thrones actor return for a sequel series? They’re sure open for it!

We can spend all day debating the finale of Game of Thrones, as so much has been written on the epic fantasy series’ conclusion. To many, it was a massive disappointment after so much build-up, while others did enjoy it and found it a fitting end for the saga.

While there have been spinoffs in House of the Dragon and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, there is buzz now and then on a possible GOT sequel series. It would be intriguing to pick back up on the world of Westeros years later and maybe even “correct” some of the issues of the finale.

Speaking to The Direct, Sophie Turner was asked about the possibility of her coming back as Sansa Stark, and her response made it clear she would be open to it.

"Show me the money (laughs). I don't know, I think it would be hard but also amazing to come back to it," she said. "Maybe it would be an utter joy, or maybe it would be trying to cling on to something that was magic back in the day that can't be recreated. I would have to see a script."

It’s a bold answer, yet it highlights how, to many fans, Sansa’s journey on the show was one part of Game of Thrones that worked.

Why we could use a Sansa Stark return

Sansa Stark’s evolution was one of the best character arcs in all of Game of Thrones. She started out as a naive, bratty girl who believed in fairy tales of handsome princes and wanted a life of luxury and fame. Seeing her father executed by her horrible prince woke Sansa up as she was subjected to more ordeals over the next few seasons.

Sansa didn’t break but rather learned how to play the Game expertly. She rose up as a politician and a brilliant mind who held strong against all opponents. The series ended with Sansa crowned Queen in the North to help lead her people to a new future.

Catching up with Sansa years later could be interesting, showing how she kept the throne and whether she helped change the North for the better. One can hope that Sansa didn’t fall into the trap of being corrupted by this power and the fun dynamic of how this Queen does better ruling than any king could.

Turner has risen up as a great star even when Sansa is her most famous role. She could slip into it with ease and use her age to enhance her performance, as both she and Sansa would be older if they ever returned. Turner is happy with how Sansa’s journey ended, but her words prove she’d jump at the chance to return to it.

This may be a pipe dream as the chances of a Game of Thrones revival are low. Yet picking up on Sansa’s tale would be a great way to redeem the legacy of the series and add a new chapter to the epic tale.

Game of Thrones is streaming on HBO Max.
