Wednesday season 2 finally made its premiere on Netflix with the release of the first four episodes on Aug. 6, and fans quickly began devouring all the twists and turns. In the new season, Wednesday returns to Nevermore for a new school year with her little brother and whole family in tow, much to her disdain. But selfishly, we get to spend even more time with the creepy and kooky fam.
Ortega's pitch-perfect as Wednesday once again, settling right back into her character's endearingly dark sarcasm and overall apathy for everyone and everything. Wednesday dives right into a new mystery involving murders that could be connected to a vision of her best friend Enid's death. As the title character, she's the show's obvious star and scene-stealer, but someone else really stood out.

Thing is the true star of Wednesday season 2
There's not a bad character in the bunch, even the villains, but did anyone else become especially obsessed with Thing in Wednesday season 2 part 1? He was a favorite in the debut season, but like the other Addams family members, he had an even bigger presence in the second season and even had an emotional arc! Thing had his own storyline and effectively stole our hearts.
He's a trusted member of the Addams family and Wednesday's sidekick at Nevermore, but early on in season 2, he struggles with his feelings of being taken advantage of by the family. They ask a lot of him, sending him to do tasks and errands without hesitation or much gratitude. His dissatisfaction with this arrangement comes to a head with the whole family forgets his birthday.
Honestly, you wouldn't think that a conscious severed hand's birthday being forgotten by his family would be an important source of emotion or stakes for a television series, but Wednesday somehow puts Thing's character arc right on par with any other main character's. Being Sixteen Candles'd also brings him closer to an unlikely bestie: Enid. She catches him drinking his sorrows away and builds him his own bedroom in an empty trunk. See below:

Realizing the error of their ways, the Addams family apologizes to Thing and spoils him with gifts and massages and treats him as an equal member of the family moving forward. Even beyond the fact that Thing had an emotional arc that works, he's also perhaps one of the most pivotal characters in the series. When Wednesday needs eyes and ears on the ground, someone who can move quickly and undetected, it's Thing who's the first line of defense.
Seriously, who many times did Thing run back and forth between Nevermore and Willow Hill in season 2 episode 4? The distance between the two establishments isn't known, but the travel time for a single hand running on five fingers can't be nearly as fast as a motor vehicle. He's the MVP communicator, information getter, and literal right-hand man Wednesday could ever ask for. Who knows what he'll be getting up to in part 2 and how he'll help save the day next!
