Spoilers are ahead from Wednesday season 2 episode 1.

Wednesday returns to Nevermore Academy

After quite an eventful summer that saw Wednesday mastering her psychic abilities using Goody's book of spells and capturing an infamous serial killer, the gothic teen returns to Nevermore Academy for a new semester. Joining her in her travels are her parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams, and her younger brother, Pugsley. Pugsley joins Wednesday as a new student at Nevermore, now that his special abilities have come in. He can control electricity like his Uncle Fester.

Elsewhere, a man is snapping photos in the woods of two people who appear to be engaged in an affair. However, things take a dark turn when a flock of crows—one with a notably damaged eye—suddenly swoops in to attack him. He rushes to his vehicle, only to find more crows waiting inside. Frantically, he calls someone and leaves a voicemail saying, "They’re onto me. If I don’t make it, the evidence is safe at the bullpen." Moments later, the crows launch a brutal assault on him.

Wednesday and her family have finally pulled up to the gates of Nevermore. Wednesday finds herself the talk around campus, all because she helped save the school last semester from the resurrected pilgrim, Joseph Crackstone. However, she doesn't like the attention at all.

While she strolls through campus, Barry Dort, the new principal of Nevermore, approaches her. He shares that he's reinstating the Founder's Pyre ceremony, which is an old outcast tradition. It will take place the following night at the school, and he invites Wednesday to be his student of honor. As expected, Wednesday declines his offer and walks away to go to her dorm. In her dorm, she and Enid catch each other up on what they did over the summer. After Enid shares her goals for the new semester, Wednesday shares that her plans are to avoid people and work on her new novel.

In the midst of their conversation, there's a knock at the door. It's Ajax looking for Enid. Wednesday lies and tells him that Enid is not in the dorm before shutting the door. Enid then explains to Wednesday that she's been avoiding Ajax because she's scared to break things off with him. She doesn't feel the same way about him anymore. While they're talking, Wednesday opens the closet door, and an arrow goes flying across the room and hits the wall. Attached to the arrow is a picture taken earlier of Wednesday and Principal Dort. There are words on the photo that read, "Welcome back, Wednesday. I'm still watching." Looks like Wednesday's stalker is back!

Wednesday touches the photo to try to get a psychic read on if she met the stalker earlier, but she doesn't see anyone mysterious in her vision. As she comes out of her vision, her eyes begin to water with black tears. Enid asks her what's wrong, but Wednesday shoos her away. Wednesday's eyes watered with black tears earlier in the episode when she was using her psychic abilities to capture the serial killer, so it looks like they happen when she over-exerts herself psychically. Elsewhere, Pugsley ends up bunking with Eugene.

What happened to Xavier Thorpe in Wednesday season 2?

Wednesday and her family are shown talking with Principal Dort outside the school. Morticia reveals to Wednesday that she's spoken with Principal Dort, who has offered her to be the chair of the Gala Fundraising Committee at Nevermore. Principal Dort explains that Vincent Thorpe used to hold the position until his son Xavier was falsely accused of murder last semester.

After this incident, Mr. Thorpe pulled Xavier from the school as well as his endowment. Xavier was then transferred to another school, Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland. Since Principal Dort threw the gala fundraising chair position on Moritcia so suddenly, he offers her temporary residence for a night in the gardener's cottage while she thinks over the opportunity.

Later, Morticia tries to bond with Wednesday by offering to be her temporary spirit guide until she gets a new one, but Wednesday turns her down. In the same conversation, Morticia brings up her sister Ophelia and tells Wednesday that she reminds her of her. But she doesn't say anything else about her. Wednesday leaves, and Morticia tells Gomez that she knows Wednesday is hiding something from her.

While walking through the woods, Wednesday happens to come across the crime scene of the man from earlier who was attacked by crows. He's dead. As she looks around the crime scene, she notices a hooded figure watching nearby. She chases after him, and it turns out to be former sheriff, Donovan Galpin. He explains to Wednesday that the victim was a friend of his named Carl Bradbury. They were working together on a case that got him killed. Galpin explains that Bradbury had come across something that could affect outcasts. However, he doesn't go into detail. Galpin then basically asks Wednesday if she'd want to team up on the case, but Wednesday declines his offer and walks away.

Pugsley brings back to life an Outcast

On the first night in the dorm, Ajax shares the eerie legend of the Skull Tree with Pugsley, Eugene, and the other kids. According to the tale, a young outcast with a fragile heart once built a clockwork heart to replace his own and had it surgically implanted. But as he became consumed by his inventions, he gradually lost touch with himself, ultimately leading to his demise. He was buried at the base of the Skull Tree, just outside Nevermore Academy.

Intrigued by the story, Pugsley becomes determined to visit the mysterious gravesite. He sets off alone after Eugene refuses to join him. But when Pugsley stumbles near the grave, he accidentally discharges his electrical powers, unexpectedly reanimating the outcast’s corpse in full zombie form.

Wednesday has a dark vision about Enid

Wednesday had no intention of attending the Founder's Pyre ceremony, but she’s forced to show up after her stalker steals her novel manuscript and leaves a cryptic note suggesting it will be burned during the event. As the ceremony is in full effect, Wednesday goes under the unlit bonfire to search for her manuscript. Although she finds it, she struggles to get out of the piles of sticks. It doesn't help that Principal Dort sets it on fire. Fortunately, Wednesday manages to find a way out and everyone stares at her in shock. Principal Dort then asks her to come up on stage to give a few words of inspiration, but in true Wednesday fashion, her words are anything but uplifting

Wednesday storms of the stage, and Enid follows her. As Enid reaches out to touch her shoulder, Wednesday falls to the ground and starts having a seizure. Black tears fall from her eyes. She's about to have a vision. In Wednesday's vision, she sees a crow sitting on a headstone with Enid's name on it. As she looks around, she discovers she's in a cemetery full of crows. Enid suddenly appears and grabs her neck, yelling out, "I died because of you!" Her vision then ends.

Here are some other things that happen in the first episode:

  • Principal Dort is being pressured by the school board to secure donations so that Nevermore Academy can stay open and running. He invites Bianca into his office and offers her the position of the fundraising gala's student liaison. Although honored by the opportunity, Bianca tells him that she's too busy to take on the role. However, Principal Dort makes her reconsider some things after he says that he'll have to take away her scholarship if she doesn't help.
  • Wednesday receives a goodbye letter and a painting of a crow sitting on a headstone from Xavier. Xavier explains in his letter that he had a random vision of the crow and the headstone, which he then painted. Although he didn't know what any of it meant, he knew it had something to do with Wednesday. Since Wednesday had a vision of a crow sitting on Enid's headstone, it looks like there's some connection.
  • Wednesday meets the new head of music at Nevermore Academy, Miss Capri. However, their meeting doesn't go that well.

Wednesday season 2 part 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
