It's time to face that facts that Stranger Things has officially ended. There's no surprise episode 9 coming for the final season. The conformity gate came crashing down on that particular fan theory. But that doesn't mean that there isn't more to come from the Duffer Brothers
Before the Stranger Things creators move their operations over to Paramount for the future of their film and television careers, the Duffer Brothers still have some tricks up their sleeve at Netflix. Apart from the animated Stranger Things spinoff set for release later this year, Netflix has also confirmed that two new series from the Duffers are coming sometime in 2026.
Netflix previously announced supernatural drama series The Boroughs and horror series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, but fans have been waiting for further updates on when they will hit our watch lists. Thankfully, the streamer unveiled a first look at its upcoming new releases and revealed that both Duffer Brothers-produced series are coming this year.

The Boroughs and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen confirmed for 2026 releases on Netflix
While Netflix hasn't announced official release dates or even release windows for either series, there's already a fair amount that we know about both The Boroughs and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. If you're ready to get out of Hawkins following the emotional Stranger Things series finale and try something new from the Duffers, these shows are just the ticket.
The Boroughs comes from creators and showrunners Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews and takes place at a retirement community in New Mexico. Throughout the eight-episode series, it's apparent that everything's not as it seems at the usually pitch-perfect community as the residents join forces in order to fight back from an "otherworldly threat."
The supernatural/sci-fi series definitely gives shades of Stranger Things will an unlikely group of heroes coming together to defeat an unimaginable enemy. But instead of children and teens, it's retirees. The Boroughs cast includes Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, Bill Pullman, Carlos Miranda, Seth Numrich, Jena Malone, Alice Kremelberg, and Eric Edelstein.
Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is the second new Netflix show from the Duffer Brothers coming in 2026, and the horror series will surely deliver some real thrills. From creator and showrunner Haley Z. Boston, the series centers on a couple played by Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco preparing for their wedding and the "ill-fated" events leading up to it.
In addition to the series leads, the cast also includes Jeff Wilbusch, Karla Crome, Gus Birney, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine, and Sawyer Fraser. There are fewer details to go on for the plot of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, and we don't really know exactly what to expect before it premiers. But the title for sure teases a bit of cheeky humor and the very real threat of danger.
Filming on both series ended last year, and given the scope of both series' sci-fi and horror elements, post-production surely took some time. It's also no surprise that neither were released in 2025 since the Duffer Brothers were significantly busy with Stranger Things. But now that we have finished our journey in Hawkins, it's time to look forward to a new era from Netflix's biggest creators!
