Stranger Things to publish deluxe behind-the-scenes book in 2026

Stranger Things is in the midst of releasing its fifth and final season, which Netflix is smartly dropping in multiple volumes. After the first batch of episodes dropped on Thanksgiving, the next is coming on Christmas Day, with the grand feature-length finale on New Years Eve.

That means the saga will be perfectly wrapped up by 2026, giving us time to appreciate it better. Which also means it’ll be the perfect time for a book exploring the series from start to finish, and its impact on television!

Announced today on Netflix's Tudum site, June 30, 2026 will see the publication of Stranger Things: The Official Story Behind The Legendary Series, which will be sold exclusively at Target. Written by Gene McIntyre, it will boast a foreword by Matt and Ross Duffer on the show. 

“A companion to all five seasons of the juggernaut series, the book will give fans exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to their favorite show," states Tudum. "It features a foreword from creators Matt and Ross Duffer, interviews with the cast, and plenty of stunning photos. Word of warning: The throwback snapshots will make you deeply nostalgic and ready to watch Stranger Things from the very beginning.”

The early excerpts of the book promise some must-read material for Stranger Things fans. It will likely follow the formula of other “making of” books by exploring the origins of the series, how the Duffers put it together and the casting process. That might lnclude touches such as story ideas that never made it to screen and how the casting changed some characters. And as confirmed by Netflix, it will have a wealth of new interviews with the Stranger Things creators and cast.

Expect exclusive behind-the-scenes photos with concept drawings of the Demogorgon and other beasts, new interviews, and details about how the story came together. No doubt there will be a deeper analysis on filming the show amid challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 Hollywood strikes, and the young actors aging faster than their characters. It will also spotlight the show’s amazing fandom that made it a cultural phenomenon. 

While not confirmed, I'm anticipating that the book will have a focus on every episode of the series with commentary from the writers, directors and stars, or at the very least, every season. While there have been a couple of behind-the-scenes Stranger Things books published in the past, they suffered from the fact that the story wasn't yet finished. With this coming out months after the finale, it’s the all-encompassing retrospective fans would want and a celebration of the show's impact on pop culture.

So mark your calendars for next June, when this book will give the most exclusive look ever at Stranger Things! It's going to be a must-read for fans of the show.
