Welcome to a bold new era for Take the Black, the once-every-Wednesday show where we discuss all things sci-fi, fantasy, movies, TV and books. What's bold about this new era? Because our usual co-host Daniel Roman is taking some time off to bond with his new baby, so we're having a rotating carousel of guest hosts to help me, Dan Selcke, break down the latest in pop culture.
This week we've invited on Michael Patterson of Bam Smack Pow, where he covers all things superheroes. We're talking all about the latest Superman movie, and Michael comes front-loaded with expertise. How does this movie stack up against past Superman movies? Is it overstuffed as some feared? Is it the solid foundation writer-director James Gunn needs to build his new DC Cinematic Universe? How cute is Krypto? We address all that and more:
Although before we get to that, we pay a visit to Westeros where they're filming the third season of House of the Dragon, and doing a very elaborate job of it. Say what you will about HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show, but they don't skimp on it.
Superman may end up being the most important movie of 2025. After we're done talking about it, we turn to what may be the most important TV show of the year: Stranger Things, which will air its fifth and final season later this year. Netflix just dropped the first teaser trailer for season 5; we glean what we can glean from it, which isn't much. The people making these trailers know how to hide things.
The Take the Black Podcast is on iTunes and YouTube Music! Please subscribe and download from there if you can. Also, you can help us out by giving us a five-star rating and leaving a friendly comment! We’re also now on Spreaker, so try us there, as well.
And of course, we run through our recurring segments: 'What Are We Watching?' and the 'WiC News Lightning Round.' Thanks so much for Michael to coming on the podcast! If all goes well, he may well return to discuss another major superhero movie coming out in a couple of weeks.
In the meanwhile, we stream new episodes of Take the Black every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. on the WinterIsComing YouTube and Facebook channels. Join the discussion!
