The Boroughs episode 6 introduced Mother for the first time, but episode 7, “Time to Go,” raises a new problem to solve in the Netflix sci-fi series.
Annaliese is dying. Mother’s blood is not saving her and healing her as quickly as it should. That’s why, we learn, that Blaine has tapped Wally to help save Mother’s life.
Sam wakes in The Manor for the first time in a daze. Apparently, he’s been fed on by the monsters for three days. His muscles aren’t working as he’s used to. It’s already the 75th anniversary of The Boroughs, and the party is tonight.
Mother is trying to contact Sam through his visions
Sam knows he needs to sneak out, and he remembers Edward, the man from the beginning who said the owls were in the walls, snuck out somehow. He uses karaoke as a diversion to make his jailbreak.
First, he meets with an interesting woman who introduces Sam to the Duchess, a person who can tell Sam how to sneak out the same way that Edward did. But, first, Sam needs to find cigarettes to wake the Duchess from her slumber.
He sings “Thunder Road” by Bruce Springsteen, a song his wife loved, which gets the whole place jumping, and Sam uses the distraction to sneak in and steal the cigarettes.
After Sam gives the Duchess the cigs, she comes alive and tells Sam everything he needs to know about escaping. She also tells him that Mother has been trying to send Sam messages through Lily. The visions Sam has been having are Mother reaching out to him. She knows that Sam can save her.
Paz, Art, Judy, and Renee come up with a plan to break Sam out
Meanwhile, Paz steals a van and sneaks into the neighborhood to break Art, Judy, and Renee out. They cut off their tracking devices and head for The Manor to break out Sam.
Paz and Art create a diversion while Judy and Renee go in and look for Sam. Initially, they can’t find him, but eventually they catch up with him and rescue him after he’s tackled by the weird nurse.
They crack him over the back with a fire extinguisher and come up with a plan to break out Mother.
Claire realizes Sam isn’t actually crazy
At Sam’s house, the realtor shows up for a showing. They move people in quickly in The Boroughs. Claire is there. She hasn’t been able to move all of Sam’s TVs out.
While they are standing in the kitchen, Claire plugs in the TVs, and it shoots particles, trapping the realtor in a web. It shows her true vampiric form. In shock, Claire watches as the woman reverts back to her human form. She doesn’t know what’s happened, and she leaves in a rush.
Claire can’t understand what happened, but she knows that Sam isn’t crazy after all. He’s right about everything, and she heads immediately to The Manor to break him out.
Wally wants to give Mother a bone marrow transplant
Wally figures out how to save Mother, and it’s with a bone marrow transplant. If he uses the blood of the kids, he can regenerate Mother’s cells.
Unfortunately, Dr. Monsaur, Wally’s partner, worries that a transplant will kill Mother. Blaine kills him instead. He tells Wally that he must save Mother’s life because Annaliese is dying.
Wally has other plans. Instead, he wants to save Mother, now, too, from the people holding her captive.
After Sam gets caught, the whole place goes into lockdown. Art is free, though, and Paz asks him to find another ride out of The Manor. Paz connects with Claire, and they break out. It’s complete chaos.
Art pulls up in a laundry truck and rescues Art, Sam, Judy, Paz, and Claire. Sam fills them in on the new plan. Instead of killing Mother, they are going to save Mother.
This was a super fast-paced episode compared to many of the other episodes of this series. With only one episode to go, the task is simple: save Mother. Sam has a connection with her that’s very E.T.-like. We don’t totally understand it yet, but we do know that Blaine and Annalise and the rest of their minions are not going to let this all go so easily.
Overall, this was a good episode. It felt the most action-packed of the episodes so far. And, it moved the story to the perfect point to kick off the season finale in episode 8.
