The ending of The Boys is not only a mystery for fans, but also for many of its main cast members. According to star Colby Minifie, who plays Vought's publicist (and later CEO) Ashley Barrett, the final two scripts haven't even been sent out yet, despite production on the final season set to wrap in a few months.
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke took everyone by surprise when he decided to wrap up the beloved superhero series with its fifth season. Many fans expected it to go on for a lot longer — I mean, Kripke is the same guy who kept Supernatural going for 15 seasons — but ultimately, ending The Boys on a high seems like a very sensible option.
The Boys season 5 started production in November 2024. Despite already having many months of filming already complete, most cast members still don't know how the show wraps up. The writers sneakily only show the cast the minimum to get by.
"We're still in the middle [of production on season 5], and those writers really know how to do it," Colby Minifie told Screen Rant. "They actually haven't given us the last two episodes yet, but it's all building. It's really building in a way where I'm like, 'Oh my God, what's going to happen next?!' I can't wait to read those episodes."
""It's crazy, man. It's been seven years working on that character, and it's crazy being in that headspace for so long. What's great about The Boys is that it allows us to comment on what's happening in our society in real-time. And it's palatable because it's within a genre that is fantasy.""
In the final moments of season 4, after hearing that she's near the top of Homelander's hit list, Ashley injected herself with some Compound V to protect herself, becoming a Supe. The screen cuts to black before we get a chance to see what powers she gets, but there appears to be some pretty grotesque developments. Will she use her newfound powers to help in the battle against Homelander? Let's hope so!
The Boys season 5 is expected to wrap in the coming months, with the final installment coming to Prime Video sometime in 2026. Even so, we'll still see some The Boys Universe content this year: spinoff Gen V returns for its second season later this year.

Jared Padalecki is terrified to join The Boys
One of the actors who doesn't know how the show will end is Jared Padalecki, who will be joining the show in season 5 alongside Misha Collins, who worked with Padalecki for years on Supernatural. And Supernatural star Jensen Ackles is already part of the cast as Soldier Boy. It's a Supernatural reunion.
Speaking to Business Insider, Padalecki actually sounds pretty nervous about the whole thing. “I don’t know a whole lot about it, which is effing terrifying,” he said. “I don’t know what we’re doing. I don’t know if we like, bump into each other. I don’t know much about it. They’re still trying to write and figure out who’s gonna be there. But it’ll be the end of this month,” Padalecki said. “It’s fucking terrifying for me.”
"I know Eric Kripke very well. I know ‘The Boys’ very well. He’s like, ‘Hey, you wanna come play?’ I’m like, ‘Yes, I think?'"
What makes Padalecki so antsy? “Literally my text to Eric Kripke was like, ‘Hey, if I’m getting naked, just give me like a month’s notice to eat broccoli and rice and chicken breasts and all day long just sit there doing push-ups,'” he said.
We'll see what happens when The Boys season 5 airs on Prime Video.
