The wait is over: the official trailer for The Vampire Lestat is finally out. The show, the rebranded season 3 of Interview With The Vampirewill premiere on June 7. With over seven weeks to go, fans were begging AMC for scraps of content, and they may just have gotten more than what they bargained for…

Both on screen and in real life, Lestat's fans are losing it (I am fans). It's been a long wait, and the trailer has revealed so much, with so many scenes to endlessly over-analyze before the show comes out.

Viewers are in for a treat. The Vampire Lestat is about to serve peak storytelling, and the show is not afraid to drop some bombs on the way to greatness. Shocking twists, painful revelations, revisiting of old wounds, opening new ones... this trailer has got it all.

The Vampire Lestat trailer analysis

The trailer opens with shots of Lestat de Lioncourt backstage, strutting dramatically towards his screaming fans, with a voiceover of Daniel Molloy — probably starting the interview — saying, “You’ve been alive and undead for 265 years: you’ve witnessed the French Revolution, the electric light, the atomic bomb…” The editing of the first 20 seconds alone is chilling, juxtaposing human Lestat in the 1790s with rockstar Lestat in the 2020s, blue dye in his hair and all.

Next, our protagonist heralds himself, despite needing no introduction: “I am the vampire Lestat,” he purrs into a microphone. “It’s my era.” And, then, unnecessarily obvious, “I am a rockstar now.”

We know already from every moment of this trailer that Lestat’s concerts are going to be pure fire. The songs, excellently written by composer Daniel Hart and performed by actor Sam Reid, perfectly encapsulate Lestat’s fiery spirit.

Lestat basks in his fans’ adoration, but is it enough? “I want millions, billions,” he says, probably to the ghost of Claudia who haunts his every moment.

“Why music? Why now?” Daniel asks, and the answer is plain for everyone to see from Lestat’s annotations on the Interview With The Vampire book. Lestat wants to re-write the tale that Louis told in his interview, a story that may not be accurate, and one the Talamasca edited heavily.

Lestat indulges in his rockstar persona, and it’s sex, drugs, and rock’n’roll all around. But talk of death pervades even that bubble, a topic Lestat probably wants to steer clear of. Yet, it’s not that baffled “I’m immortal” that made the hearts of fans all across the globe shatter. It’s what follows: it’s “No one seems to give a shit about you,” as we see a baby Lestat scream, a modern-day Lestat shed a blood tear and overdose, alone, in a bloody bathroom, with a wall of unread texts on his phone. It’s why he thinks he deserves that. “I’ve been a monster,” he yells. “This is my reckoning.”

The trailer treated us to various shots of Lestat when he was human and even showed a glimpse at what happened before his transformation. To lighten the mood, the heavy stuff is interspaced with a fun bit of Lestat’s bandmate Alex calling him out for killing people. “I’m people, we are people,” he accuses, to which the vampire only responds with a shrug and a sassy, “And so was I.”

To end it on a high note, we see Lestat and Daniel fighting an entire coven of angry vampires at a party, only for Lestat to dramatically fly out of a closed window. Right after, Louis beheads someone — possibly somebody who had badmouthed Lestat. We also see Louis at Lestat’s concert, where the rockstar presumably stops time and flies to Louis to (pettily) show him his copy of the book. Wow, I really can’t wait to see them reunite (again).

Many more quick shots of Lestat’s human and vampire lives intertwine. The end is simple: “I am the vampire Lestat,” he repeats. “I am a god.” Has anything been more obvious?

New and old faces in The Vampire Lestat

Lestat de Lioncourt is now front and center, and to his side is Daniel Molloy the journalist, ready for a new story. Interview With The Vampire protagonist Louis de Pointe du Lac is also returning for season 3, and fans cannot wait to see more of him. Their daughter Claudia will be present in an unknown number of episode, clearly as a figment of Lestat’s imagination — we’ll have to see if it's her he seeks in drugs, or to rid himself of her ever-present voice.

Armand will be back, and the trailer showed us a glimpse of him and Daniel. Plenty of people from Lestat's past lives will appear: his human family; his first love Nicholas; Lestat's maker, Magnus. We'll also meet many new faces, some from Anne Rice’s novels. First and foremost, Gabrielle — there is nothing non-spoilery that can be said about this force of nature, sorry. Lestat’s bandmates, formerly known as Satan’s Night Out, will be a constant this season, along with Lestat’s rockstar entourage.

The Vampire Lestat music

So far, The Vampire Lestat had released two songs, Long Face and All Fall Down, which will also serve as the series’ opening titles

The trailer introduced the audience to his third single, Dancing With Myself, a cover of the 1981 song by Billy Idol. Lestat's version of the song will be officially released on all streaming platforms soon.

The Vampire Lestat is coming, and the world is not ready.

The Vampire Lestat premieres on June 7 on AMC+.
