It’s been over a year since The Wheel of Time aired its final episode, and one member of the cast is finally getting back into the acting game with their first new role since the end of Prime Video’s hit fantasy series.
As first reported by Variety, The Wheel of Time star Daniel Henney has joined the cast of Apple TV’s new action thriller Disavowed. The role marks Henney’s first on-screen appearance since his three-season run on The Wheel of Time in the role of Lan Mandragoran.
Henney is set to play Jae Chun, a successful attorney for high-profile figures, a character that is quite a departure from the more noble and loyal Lan Mandragoran. While we always knew we could trust Lan and that he had a strong moral compass, we imagine Jae is going to be a bit more of a morally grey character, which is going to be fun to see him play.
It will be interesting to see Henney go from such a sweeping fantasy epic to an action thriller, but we’re honestly thrilled to see him back on our screens after he took a brief hiatus following the The Wheel of Time's shocking cancellation. Sure, he lent his voice to the character Jinn in Genie, Make a Wish, but the role only involved vocal work and didn’t actually include an on-screen appearance from Henney, which makes Disavowed his first on-screen role since wrapping The Wheel of Time.
Henney will be in great company in the new series, which will see him co-starring alongside James Marsden, Norman Reedus, and Bokeem Woodbine. Marsden will lead the series as Brad Griffin, a legendary CIA case officer who is fired in the middle of a global hunt for an elusive assassin who killed his colleague. Now seen as an outcast from the intelligence world, Brad begins a hunt for the assassin who killed his friend while also going after the $15 million bounty being offered for the assassin’s capture.
The series marks a bit of a return to the crime drama genre for Henney, who was best known for playing Supervisory Special Agent Matt Simmons on CBS’s Criminal Minds spinoff, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, prior to joining The Wheel of Time.
Henney was a breakout in The Wheel of Time, winning fans over with his performance, which was praised by fans and even earned him a Performer of the Week nod from TVLine. He was a standout performer in the larger Wheel of Time ensemble, and we're thrilled that he's finally going to be returning to our screens via a new role. Of course, we'd have loved if another fantasy series had picked him up, but we're definitely excited to see Henney in Apple TV's Disavowed, which will hopefully drop sometime in 2027.
