Sophie Okonedo goes up against the likes of Ariana Grande and Isabela Merced in the Best Supporting Actress category.

The other month, Amazon cancelled The Wheel of Time, its adaptation of Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series, and we were bereft. The show was getting better and better with each passing season and there was still plenty of story left. It hurt to see it cut down in its prime.

At least the show could get a little love during awards season. The nominations for the 2025 Pride Awards recently came out, and The Wheel of Time star Sophie Okonedo (Siuan Sanche) was nominated alongside the likes of Ariana Grande (for Wicked) and Isabela Merced (for The Last of Us):

Siuan Sanche is the leader of the Aes Sedai, an organization of sorceresses who pull strings all over the world. Although it's only hinted at in the books, the show dove into a love affair that Siuan Sanche had with fellow Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike).

Siuan ended the season, and apparently the series, dead on the floor of her own audience chamber, overthrown by the Aes Sedai Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan (Shohreh Aghdashloo). I would have loved to see how Moiraine worked through her grief in future seasons. Instead, Amazon consigned the show to an early death. I just realized that Amazon is Elaida and Siuan Sanche is the show in this analogy.

The Pride Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 29 at the Lincoln Center in New York City. Will Sophie Okonedo win? That's hard to say. She's one of the lesser known candidates in her category, so honestly I doubt it. But it's nice to see The Wheel of Time getting some recognition. The show made sure to include LGBT+ relationships, so I'm glad to see it honored at the Pride Awards.

Meanwhile, fans continue to try and save the show with petitions, letter-writing campaigns, billboards and more. It's a very noble effort, although it looks like some of the big cast members are ready to move on:
