The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most acclaimed games of all time, having garnered hundreds of awards and widespread love from fans and critics alike. There are no shortage of reasons why; The Witcher 3 is simply a masterpiece of a video game. But ask anyone who's played it about their favorite way to kill time in the game, and it you're likely to get one answer: Gwent, the card game played across the Continent. Gwent is so addictive and fun that developer CD Projekt Red even made a standalone Gwent video game where players could compete with their favorite decks to earn renown and climb the ranks.

But I think the thing fans have most wanted are physical Gwent cards so that they could actually play with their friends and loved ones on game night. And now, at long last, the announcement has come: Gwent is getting a widespread physical release!

Polygon reports that Hachette Boardgames and No Loading Games are joining forces to adapt "high-profile licenses," and that Gwent will be one of the flagship games produced under that partnership, along with Asterix. This new release for the card game will include 400 cards and a playmat to bring players closer to “the full experience of Gwent’s iteration within The Witcher 3.” It'll even come with rule sets for both casual and tournament play!

Personally, I think this is a ridiculously exciting announcement, and I know a lot of other Witcher 3 fans are going to be in the same boat. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt came out around a decade ago, and many people have been pining for real-life Gwent decks ever since. Before this, the only way to get physical Gwent decks was as part of the physical release for The Hearts of Stone DLC, which came packaged with Scoia'tael and Monster faction Gwent decks.

This new set up is much better and will be widely accessible. Polygon reports that it will be available in the third quarter of 2025 in both the U.S. and UK, and will retail for $39.99 and £44, respectively.

Gwent is the biggest ‘game within a game’ in media history,” Hachette Boardgames marketing manager Rob Trounce said in a press release. “After a 10 year wait, we are proud to be working alongside No Loading Games to bring this beloved game to tabletops in a stunning package — whether it’s a souvenir for fans of Geralt and his adventures, or a game for competitive card game enthusiasts, Gwent will be one of the hottest games of 2025.”

Just make sure to toss on the Gwent soundtrack from The Witcher 3 while you play, to get that full experience of being in a tavern on the Continent:

There's an awful lot of exciting Witcher news flying around as of late.
