Twisted Metal’s second season roars forward with its crazy car action and bodies dropping at every turn. We review the latest two episodes, released Friday, Aug. 8, below!
Season 2 episode 4: “LZGTBZY”
Episode 4 opens with one day left until the driving competition begins. Diesel City is a smoke-polluting industrial place. The cost to enter is an exchange of fuel for coins. It’s heavily guarded with snipers maintaining a no-violence policy with their own. The people look and act rough, as they should.
Inside, it’s a flea market of everything, including weapons. Sweet Tooth and Stu shop for weapons and ammunition. Stu has his hands full keeping the crazed clown restrained from killing people. But then, Sweet Tooth spends his coins on a velvet cape. He pretends to be Dracula and literally gets away with murder. He’s pretty funny when he’s so giddy about killing. Stu gets kidnapped, and Sweet Tooth hasn’t noticed.

Meanwhile, Quiet and John make their way inside Diesel City by masquerading as a pair of notables from other big cities like New San Francisco. I laughed when they miraculously cleaned up by only changing into nicer clothes procured by Mayhem. They have a plan to get into the Emperor’s vault, where the best of the weapons are kept behind enhanced security.
Quiet and John are introduced to the perverted Emperor. Skirting around him is as difficult as the wall lasers and posted guards. They eventually make it into the vault, but are distracted with each other. Why not take a few moments out of a hard deadline to have sex? A knocked-over weapon sets fire to the place. Stu stumbles in and manages to pilfer a backpack of bombs and ammo while they’re busy.
There’s a moment when Dollface and Sweet Tooth fight together against guards from Diesel City. But then they have to face off over an EMP weapon. I believe this is the first time they’ve met.
This episode has an abundance of innuendos, sex, and plenty of violence. Stu gets his first "massacre," which makes Sweet Tooth proud. For a place supposedly secure from violence, the Emperor’s vault burns down, and all-out war ensues. It’s a crazy episode when Quiet and John escape wearing nothing but weapons and ammo because their clothing burned inside the vault.

Season 2 episode 5: “ONURMRK”
Quiet, John, Dollface, and Mayhem arrive at the completion. Here’s where we get a good look at who their competition is. Besides Axel, there are holy men with a killer baby they claim is the resurrected preacher, and more.
Mayhem sets about pitting the other drivers against one another with her manipulation. She also gathers intel on each of them and their vehicles for her team.
Stu finds his old buddy Mike, who he believed was dead. Mike’s got a new partner who was part of the cannibalistic Butchers. They’re also here to compete. Then, not surprisingly, Mr. Grimm rides in on his motorcycle. Apparently, Grim and Sweet Tooth have a history, and we learn Sweet Tooth’s real name. Now these two have their eye on killing each other first.
Next driving in is Raven (the mayor of New San Francisco) with a sleek little car. She arrives just before Calypso makes his dramatic entrance. He explains the rules for a qualifying round of the tournament: 1. Pick up a package. 2. Deliver it to New Tournament City. And the easy one is next: 3. Don’t die.

The round starts off with a bang as the first driver is killed. Mayhem steals that car so she can enter the race. The battle song is "Dragula" by Rob Zombie. The drivers quickly learn their packages are an explosive threat as well. It’s pretty cool to see the weapon combos of each vehicle. I see why this was such a fun driving video game.
Mayhem runs into a problem and fires her flair. This episode concludes with Quiet and John turning back to save her. We won’t know until the next episode whether they get to her before their package explodes. When you have on the edge of your seat action like this, a week feels like a long wait. The next two episodes will be released on August 14, only on Peacock.
