The third season of The Wheel of Time, based on Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series, premieres next month. But Prime Video is giving fans a sneak peak; they just released the first 11 minutes from the new season, and they are epic. Watch below:
The scene takes place in the White Tower in Tar Valon, the seat of power for the Aes Sedai sorceresses. Although a lot of people don't see it this way, the Aes Sedai generally dedicate themselves to maintaining order and pursuing justice in a world where both of things can be in short supply. But there are those Aes Sedai who have turned against that mission and sworn allegiance to the Dark One, who wants to corrupt and dominate all living beings. The pay package must be great.
Anyway, we've met members of this "Black Ajah" before, most prominently Liandrin (Kate Fleetwood), who sold some of our heroes into slavery in the second season. Now she's brought before the Amyrlin Seat, the Aes Sedai leader Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo) to face the music. Only she and her dark sisters have no intention of facing consequences for their actions. What follows is a thrilling scene where the sisters of the Black Ajah flee the tower and the city, eviscerating those who stand in their way.
We hear about this happening in the pages of The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in The Wheel of Time series and the foundation for this new season, but we don't actually see it go down. The show is changing that, and a good thing too, because this is a terrific scene. If the rest of the season maintains this level of quality, we could be in for a great season of TV.
If Prime Video is true to form, the first three episodes of The Wheel of Time season 3 will drop all at once on Thursday, March 13, with the remainder of the eight episodes coming out every Thursday thereafter.
