"I want Oz to feel pain. Real pain." Things are about to get serious...but even more so.

The most recent episode of The Penguin, "Gold Summit," ended on a monster cliffhanger: Sofia Falcone and Sal Maroni, who had teamed up to take on Oswald Cobb as he rose through the ranks of Gotham City's criminal underworld, succeeding in abducting perhaps the one person on the planet other than himself that Oz might care about: his mother Francis.

There are only two episodes of The Penguin left. The penultimate episode, "Top Hat," airs next Sunday night on HBO and Max at 9:00 p.m. EST/8 CST. You can watch the trailer for "Top Hat" above.

Oz does indeed sound terrified about what might happen to Francis now that she's in the clutches of his biggest enemies. And Sal is smacking him with a golf club on top of that. I'd ask how he's going to get out of this one, but slipping out of impossible situations is something of a specialty of his. And with two more episodes to go, we can assume Oz probably has a trick or two left up his sleeve.

The title of the episode is interesting. "Top Hot" could be a reference to the 1935 movie of the same name starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Both Oz and his mother are known to be fans of old Hollywood films. I guarantee they've both seen Top Hat.

Also, for much of his history as a Batman villain, the Penguin wears a top hat, so maybe the title is referencing that. Perhaps we'll see this gruffer version of the Penguin pick up a few of the iconic pieces of costuming that he's been associated with for decades.

So far, The Penguin has been a fantastic show, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all wraps up. The events of The Penguin will lead into the movie The Batman: Part II, which will drop in 2026.
