It's been over half a year since the end of House of the Dragon season 2, HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show. Any day now, the cast and crew are going to get to work filming the third season. I know: that sounds like a long time to go between the end of one season airing and starting shooting on the next one, and it guarantees that we'll have to wait until 2026 to watch new episodes. But so it goes with most of these super-sized genre shows; long waits in between seasons have become the norm.
ANYWAY, we've been hearing for quite a while that the third season of House of the Dragon will begin filming something this month, in March, and could run into October. But while we've definitely seen the cast and crew preparing to shoot — the actors are reading their scripts and the sets are going up — we haven't actually seen the cameras rolling. March is almost over. When is this show going to get on the road?
At the last possible minute, possible. On the latest episode of his podcast The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of, House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal said that "We are approaching the imminent launch of season 3, so it's full madness." He also noted that people in England — where much of House of the Dragon films — haven't yet switched to Daylight Savings Time; they do that on the last Sunday of March, aka this upcoming Sunday. Or to use Condal's words, the clocks will change over, "[j]ust before production starts."
So if we put this together, if shooting on House of the Dragon is going to begin this March, and it's going to begin after the clocks change in England this Sunday, there's only one day on which filming could begin: this upcoming Monday, March 31.
...or filming could start in early April, but it's more fun to pick up on little clues and solve the puzzle like a detective. So we're calling it: filming on House of the Dragon season 3 will start this Monday, March 31! We'll be on the lookout.
