After releasing the first half of Wednesday season 2 in August 2025, Netflix returned a month later and dropped the last four remaining episodes on Sept. 3. Most people have already binge-watched the entire season by now, and are wondering about what's next. Fortunately, Netflix had already renewed the hit fantasy series for a third installment before the second season's release. Now, it's just a waiting game until the new episodes come out.

But there's more than just a third season for fans to be excited about. Back when news broke that Netflix had given the green light on a Wednesday season 3, series co-creator Alfred Gough and Netflix executive Bela Bajaria hinted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that a spinoff was also in the works. However, they would not reveal any specific details at the time, leaving the concept, character, and storyline a complete mystery. The only other hint they gave was that it would be centered on another Addams family member.

Naturally, fans immediately began speculating on who the spinoff series would focus on. Could it be Pugsley getting his own darkly comedic adventures? Perhaps a deep dive into Gomez and Morticia’s younger years? Or maybe even Uncle Fester embarking on some bizarre escapades. Although Netflix still has yet to reveal any more details, one of the stars of Wednesday has now confirmed that they’ll be getting their very own spinoff series.

Fred Armisen confirms Uncle Fester spinoff at Netflix

On the Sept. 8 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Emmy-nominated actor Fred Armisen appeared as Fallon’s guest. Armisen plays the role of the mischievous Uncle Fester in Wednesday, aka Wednesday's criminal uncle and Gomez's brother. Towards the end of the interview, Fallon mentions to Armisen that he's heard that there's been talk of a spinoff of Uncle Fester. Instead of playing coy, Armisen confirmed the exciting news, saying, "Yeah, it's fantastic."

Given that the spinoff is in its early stages, it makes sense why Armisen doesn't go into specifics about the plot or cast in the interview. Gough and fellow Wednesday creator Miles Millar previously mentioned in an interview with Collider that their primary focus at the moment is figuring out how to get Wednesday season 3 released as quickly as possible. That said, there probably hasn't been any progress on a spinoff series besides initial brainstorming and discussions. But at least we now know for sure that Uncle Fester will be getting his own spotlight. We can already imagine what types of darkly hilarious misadventures he'll get into!

Below, we shared Armisen's interview on The Tonight Show. He starts talking about the Uncle Fester spinoff at the 9:04 mark.
