This article contains SPOILERS for Fallout season 2 Episode 8, "The Strip."
During the final moments of Fallout season 1, the show teased the coming of the Deathclaw by showing Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan) walking past the skull of one in the desert outside New Vegas. Fast forward to Fallout season 2, and the Deathclaws played a major role in the season, nesting right in the middle of New Vegas and threatening any who came into their domain.
Now, we've gotten a glimpse at another, equally iconic figure from the Fallout games that will no doubt feature in season 3: the gigantic robot known as Liberty Prime.
After the credits have rolled on the Fallout season 2 finale, the series does something unexpected and drops a surprise post-credits scene that catches up with the Brotherhood of Steel. We last saw the Brotherhood in Episode 204, when Maximus (Aaron Moten) made his escape with the cold fusion relic as the various factions of the militia devolved into a civil war aboard their airships.
Now we see that both Maximus' friend Dane (Xelia Mendes-Jones) and the maniacal Elder Cleric Quintus (Michael Cristofer) survived the battle. Dane brings Quintus a schematic he'd been searching for which contains knowledge about an ancient machine.
As Quintus proclaims that his role as a unifier is over, and he will now become "Quintus the Destroyer," we get a glimpse at what's on the schematic: a giant robot labeled "Liberty Prime Alpha." The text beneath the robot's name denotes that it's a weapon belonging to the "Strategic Arms Division" of the U.S. Army, and that it was built by General Atmoics and RobCo. It also has the text "Mass Fusion," which is likely a reference to what's needed to power the machine.
Liberty Prime is a kaiju-sized robot that features in Fallout 3, as well as Fallout 4 if you side with the Brotherhood of Steel. It's especially well-known from the third game, where it plays a key role in the main questline near the end of the story. This giant, walking robot is capable of firing nuclear weapons and leveling city blocks with ease, and is the ultimate weapon of the Brotherhood of Steel. If Quintus has his sights set on getting one, it's going to be a big problem for everyone else in the Wasteland.
Liberty Prime could put the Brotherhood on a collision course with New Vegas
The games usually make it a point of sending the player on various quests to get all the parts needed to power up the robot if they're siding with the Brotherhood; if they're not siding with the Brotherhood, then Liberty Prime is about as formidable a foe as they come.
Resources have been an important plot point in the Brotherhood of Steel storyline of the Fallout TV show as well; specifically, the capability of cold fusion to produce limitless fusion cores, which are used to fuel power armor suits and other large technological devices. The Brotherhood will certainly need a lot of power to get a Liberty Prime robot up and running, and cold fusion would obviously help with that. We last see the cold fusion device in Robert House's computer in New Vegas. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the Brotherhood tries to get it back during season 3, setting the stage for Quintus' gigantic robot to wreak havoc across the Wasteland.
As with the Deathclaws in season 2, Liberty Prime will no doubt be a highlight of Fallout's third season, which is due to start filming this May. In the meantime, you can get an idea of just how deadly this robot can be by playing Fallout 3 or Fallout 4.
