The third season of The Wheel of Time, Prime Video's adaptation of Robert's Jordan 14-book strong epic fantasy series, will premiere on Thursday, March 13. There will be eight episodes this season, just like there was in the two prior. If Prime Video sticks to their normal release schedule, the first three episodes of The Wheel of Time season 3 will drop all at once, and then new episodes will come out one at a time every Thursday thereafter until the season is over. So the third season of The Wheel of Time will kick off on March 13 and probably be all wrapped up by April 17.
If I can scream into the void for a moment, I think it would do Prime Video and other streaming services good to not release their series this way. If They released only one episode at a time, they could keep people entertained for months. Or they could take a cue from Netflix and just drop everything at once. I don't like this hybrid model where no one gets what they want.
Anyway, the first season of The Wheel of Time came out in 2021, and was received more or less well, although there were plenty of fans upset that the show took liberties with the source material. That first season was also pretty badly impacted by having to film during the start of COVID; you can particularly see the effects in the final couple episodes. In 2023, the second season came along and was much stronger and more confident overall. Now we've reached season 3, which I hope continues that upward trend.
And it may need to, because we haven't heard much about Prime Video planning more seasons. A strong third season might be the only chance the show has at renewal. After season 2, I trust them to pull through.
